James Mee is also highly regarded songwriter, performer and recording artist working with some of Nashville’s most commercially successful songwriters.

James Mee’s recordings have been produced by Terry Cashman who also produced all of Jim Croce hits; “Time In A Bottle, Bad Bad Leroy Brown, Don’t Mess Around with Jim, and Operator.”

James is best known in acoustic-music circles as the guy who penned the song, “Big Time In A Small Town.”  The title track to the Martha’s Vineyard Songwriter’s Retreat. The recording was issued nationally on Philo/Rounder Records.

Through the years James has opened for some of the biggest names in acoustic music including Arlo Guthrie, Shawn Colvin, Don McLean, Liv Taylor, Karla Bonoff, Tom Rush, Tom Chapin and Doc Watson to name a few.

He’s performed in some America’s best-known venues: The Bottom Line and The Bitter End in NYC, Club Passim in Cambridge MA, Cornell’s University’s Bound-for-Glory, and the Postscript at Columbia University.

He’s performed on over 100 college campuses across America.

To date James has recorded 7 critically acclaimed CDs, received numerous ASCAP song writing grants, been awarded grants through the NEA/Crossroads Arts Council, and spent a lot of time in Nashville, TN on Music Row writing songs for various music publishers, Dreamworks, Peer Music Group, Warner- Chappelle. etc.

James has performed in concert in more than thirty states and his original songs have, been heard on televison, in movies and on the radio.

The Boston Globe called him, “likable and lyrical”.  Maine Public Radio says, “James is a superior writer who can blend melodic phrases with intensely emotional lyrics in an incredible manner.”

Cherry Lane Music Publishing included two of James’ songs in their “The Best Of Contemporary Folk” featuring the 25 new and classic songs from some of America’s best
singer-songwriters which included artists such as Harry Chapin, Tom Paxton, Shawn Colvin, Lucinda Williams, and Suzanne Vega.

James currently has a song, “Grey Rain” in the indie feature film, “Crab Tree Orchard” starring Ed Asner and Judd Reinhold. And his song, “On A Snowy Night’ is in the indie film “Soho They Call It.”

He has been writing ad-jingles in Phoenix, Arizona for the Martz Ad Agency.  He was honored with a “Telly Award” for his song “Stand By You” which was featured  as part of the Governor’s Black Tie Ball for the Southern Highland Charities in Las Vegas, Nevada.

James just finished his first novel, “From A Winter’s Sky” published  7/1/08.

And he is currently the Music Supervisor for the TV show Vermont Spotlight.
